Grand jury indicts six in drug raid

Six people arrested in January during a narcotics search were recently indicted by a Washington County Grand Jury.
A search of an upstairs apartment at 610 Second St., Marietta, resulted in the largest seizure of drugs in Washington County in the last several years, according to police reports.
During the search conducted by agents of the Ohio Organized Crimes Investigations Commission and the Washington Morgan Noble Major Crimes Task Force, approximately 109 grams of heroin, 117 grams of methamphetamine and more than $2,700 in cash were seized.
Police reports state the majority of the drugs were seized from two Akron residents.

Smith
Indicted as a result of the search were:
• Jeffrey S. Wittekind, 31, of 316 Gilman Ave., Marietta, was indicted on one count of possession of a fentanyl-related compound/major drug offender, a first-degree felony, and one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. The grand jury further found and specified that Wittekind is a major drug offender.
• James C. Smith, 25, of 1853 Adele Blvd., Akron, was indicted on one count of possession of a fentanyl-related compound/major drug offender, a first-degree felony. The grand jury further found and specified that Smith is a major drug offender.
• Taevion T. Thompson, 21, of 733 Storer Ave., Akron, was indicted on one count of possession of a fentanyl-related compound/major drug offender, a first-degree felony. The grand jury further found and specified that Thompson is a major drug offender.
• David J. Gorby, 33, of 716 Ellett St., Martins Ferry, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony.

Spindler
• Mara L. Spindler, 59, of 610 Second St., Marietta, was indicted on one count of possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a first-degree misdemeanor. Spindler was found with fentanyl and Xanax. Cash in the amount of $596 found on Spindler is subject to forfeit as it was used in or intended to be used in the commission of the offenses.
• Brandon P. Layman, 38, of 610 Second St., Marietta, was indicted on six charges, including one count of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, a first-degree felony; one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a second-degree felony; one count of possession of fentanyl-related compound (fentanyl), a fifth-degree felony; one count of possession of a fentanyl-related compound (carfentanil), a fifth-degree felony; one count of aggravated possession of Xanax, a first-degree misdemeanor; and one count of permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony. Cash in the total of $2,511 is subject to forfeiture as proceeds from the commission of the first count.
Other indictments include:
• Christopher Mayle, 40, of 11722 State Route 555, Cutler, was indicted on one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a third-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on Feb. 21 on Ohio 550 in Washington County.
• Anthony J. Curry, 30, of 214 Wooster St. Apt. 2, Marietta, was indicted on one count of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, a third-degree felony, and one count of permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony. The indictments stem from an arrest on May 21 at his residence. He was allegedly found with 4.39 grams of methamphetamine. Two cell phones owned by Curry are subject to forfeiture as they were used in the commission of the offenses.

Thompson
• Clarissa M. Doughtery, 25, of 214 Wooster St. Apt. 2, Marietta, was indicted on one count of permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on May 21 at a residence she shares with Anthony J. Curry, in which Doughtery allegedly allowed a felony drug abuse at a residence where she is the occupant.
• Curtis D. Howell, 35, of 1170 Tice Run Road, New Matamoras, was indicted on four charges, including one count of having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony; one count of aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor; one count of domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor; and one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on June 27 at his residence. Howell allegedly threatened to kill Heather Howell after a verbal altercation. He also allegedly pulled her hair and pushed her up against their residence, threatening to “gut her like a pig.” When detectives attempted to locate him for an interview, they found him hiding in a bedroom closet. When he emptied his pockets, detectives found two containers of meth. Detectives also found four firearms in plain view in Howell’s bedroom, which he is not permitted to have, as he has a past criminal conviction for burglary, and is drug dependent.
• Larry D. Loy, 60, of 80 Heeter St., Newport, was indicted on four charges, including three counts of aggravated possession of drugs, fifth-degree felonies, and one count of aggravated trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony. The indictment stems from incidents on May 18, June 18 and June 29 at his residence. The first count was for possession of methamphetamine. The second count was for trafficking in methamphetamine. The third count was for possession of methamphetamine, while the fourth count was for possession of oxycodone.
• Deborah L. Streight, 60, of 221 South Sixth St., Marietta, was indicted on one count of interfering with forfeitable property, a fourth-degree felony, and one count of obstruction of justice, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment stems from a series of incidents between April 2018 and June 2019.
• Lindsey M. Lucas, 35, of 709 Clement Ave., Belpre, was indicted on one count of permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on May 1 after a task force raid at Lucas’ residence. Five others were also arrested on various charges, including possession of heroin, trafficking in heroin, trafficking in methamphetamine and weapons under disability.

Wittekind
• Delbert D. Cain, 40, of 100 Simpson St., Marietta, was indicted on one count of escape, a fourth-degree felony. The indictment stems from an incident on June 24 when Cain escaped from the Washington County Jail while being detained for aggravated trafficking in drugs.
• Sherman L. Larrimore II, 37, of 1725 State Route 260, New Matamoras, was indicted on one count of failure to provide notice of change of address, a third-degree felony. Larrimore was convicted in February 2008 in Clinton County Common Pleas Court of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and is required to provide written notice of any change of residence address to the Washington County sheriff.
• Connor R. Arnott, 18, of 122 Main St., Dexter City, was indicted on three charges, including one count of breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony; one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony; and one count of petty theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. The indictments stem from an arrest on June 13 for breaking into Rinky Dink Flea Market in Marietta. He allegedly stole several hundred dollars’ worth of coin and paper currency from the booth of Bruce’s World Coins and Other Neat Stuff.
• Bobbie J. Seevers, 22, of 29760 State Route 7, Marietta, was indicted on one count of possession of .2088 grams of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on Oct. 14, 2018, on Ohio 550 in Barlow.
• David J. Smearman III, age unknown, of 570 Albright Road, Beverly, was indicted on one count of possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on May 11, 2018, on Ohio 7 in Belpre.

Gorby
• Kaitlyn P. Dye, 22, of 2204 Hill St. Apt. E, Belpre, was indicted on one count of possession of .3485 grams of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on May 26 on Ohio 7 in Belpre.
• Robert J. Cross, 37, of 1011 George St., Parkersburg, was indicted on one count of possession of .221 grams of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on Oct. 4, 2017, on Ohio 7 in Marietta.
• Evelyn R. Inman, 37, of 47 Petal St., Parkersburg, was indicted on one count of possession of .079 grams of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest, along with Robert J. Cross, on Oct. 4, 2017, on Ohio 7 in Marietta.
• Elizabeth A. Lang, 31, of 1009 Colegate Drive, Marietta, was indicted on three counts of theft, all fourth-degree felonies. The indictment stems from incidents Feb. 13-19, March 1 and March 6, where she allegedly stole hydrocodone from the CVS Pharmacy in Belpre.
• Derek Stalder, 32, last known address of 610 Beck Road, Lancaster, was indicted on one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of criminal damaging, a second-degree misdemeanor. The indictment stems from an arrest on Feb. 11, 2018, at 719 Zanesville St., Beverly, after Stalder allegedly stole a purse from Kyla Farmer, as well as damaged her Chrysler 300 automobile. Her purse contained makeup, personal identification cards, credit cards, and a checkbook with checks.
• Brandon Lee Richards, 27, last known address of 20807 State Route 60, Beverly, was indicted on five charges, including two counts of vandalism, a fifth-degree felony, and three counts of criminal damaging, all second-degree misdemeanors. The incident stems from an arrest on May 14, 2018, at Ohio 339 in Beverly. Richards allegedly caused harm to the welcome sign at the entrance to Beverly, along with allegedly causing damage to property of John Lang at 39 Mill St., Waterford, property of Jessica Ward at 133 Washington St., Waterford and property of Ted Offenberger at 632 Main St., Waterford. He also allegedly caused damage to road signs, street signs and roadway pavement controlled by the Waterford Township Trustees.
• Mary A. Sidel, 53, of 817 Grandview Ave., New Matamoras, was indicted on six charges, including two counts of permitting drug abuse, both fifth-degree felonies; two counts of possession of methamphetamine, both fifth-degree felonies; and two counts of trafficking methamphetamine in the vicinity of a school, both third-degree felonies. The indictments stem from incidents on Feb. 15, 2018, and Sept. 10, 2018, at her residence. She allegedly permitted her residence to be used for a felony drug abuse offense violation by Robert Lohr, age and address unknown.
• Jaclyn J. Kerns, 36, of 1002 Cain Hill Road, Belleville, W.Va., was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of fentanyl, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor. The indictment stems from an arrest on July 21, 2018, at 901 Main St., Belpre.
• Joshua K. Ross, 39, of 35 Maple St. Apt. 2, Newport, was indicted on four charges, including one count of vehicular assault, a third-degree felony; one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle, a first-degree misdemeanor; one count of driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor; and one count of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on Aug. 23, 2018, on Ohio 7 in Newport Township. Ross allegedly used a 1993 Infinity without the consent of the owner, Nancy Riggs, and caused harm to Joyce Ross. At the time, he was driving under a suspended license and was in the possession of 26 pills of tramadol hydrochloride, a narcotic pain killer also known as Ultram.
• D’Lontae B. Tolbert, 28, of 5607 Bonaventure Drive, Hilliard, was indicted on one count of trafficking in drugs, a first-degree felony, and one count of possession of drugs, a second-degree felony. The indictment stems from an arrest on Aug. 6 at 101 Ingleside Ave., Marietta, where Tolbert was allegedly found with 26.25 grams of a mixture of fentanyl and heroin.
