Frontier Local seeks bus bids

NEW MATAMORAS–Frontier Local Schools Board of Education authorized the purchase of a new bus Monday.

Bids will be accepted at the board office until noon on Dec. 16 for a 72-passenger bus for the district.

The projected budget for the purchase is $93,000.

“Was that factored into our five-year forecast?” questioned Justin Hoff, vice president of the board of education.

Treasurer Lee Howard confirmed that the purchase of a new bus has been a part of the district’s plan, which is currently cycling out old buses every other year.

The board also reviewed a positive five-year forecast for the rural district’s finances Monday.

“We’re projecting at least a positive carry-forward through 2023,” said Howard.

Not included in the forecast is supplemental health funding coming from the state to support some of the functions of the district, she explained.

“The state (board and legislators) didn’t want us to include that in the forecast, but it can be used to relieve the burden on our general fund for some of the health expenses we currently pay through there,” Howard added.

The board also thanked anonymous donors to the school lunch balances given in recent weeks to the district, noting another $507.55 donation to aid the most in-need children at the elementary schools.

The board will next meet Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. at Frontier High School, 44870 State Route 7, New Matamoras.
