PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation has teamed up throughout the community to provide a sweet treat to hundreds of the area's essential workers.
According to Julia Posey, development and communications officer for the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, the foundation purchased $1,500 worth of cookies -- 300 boxes -- from the Girl Scouts of America of Black Diamond Council that will be delivered to four area businesses.
"It is so important to express our appreciation right now to those people who are helping all of us to get through this time of quarantine," said Posey. "During these uncertain times, it is important to bring some brightness into someone's day - definitely when that someone is a person who is working diligently during this pandemic. We thought that cookies make everyone a little happier. It's also a way to help out our local Girl Scout Troops as well as many of the troops now have cookies without the ability to sell them via their usual means."
Ruth Bradley, a volunteer with troop 35267 in Parkersburg, said she is among the lucky people who sold all of their cookie inventory, but that not everyone is so fortunate.
"There are 14 troops in Wood County and most of them have quite a bit of cookies left, because we are unable to set up booths or get the kids out to sell them to people," said Bradley.
Bradley said cookies can be paid for electronically and delivered to the customer or donated to groups like Camden Clark Medical Center.
"There are a variety of cookies left and none of it can go back, we are stuck with our inventory," said Bradley.
The cookies donated by the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation will be delivered to WVU Camden Clark Medical Center and the Plum Street Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Parkersburg.
Star Plastics in Ravenswood also teamed up with the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation to purchase cookies for Food Fair and the Coplin Clinic in Ravenswood.
Star Plastics President and CEO Doug Ritchie said, "Our company cares about its community. We are very grateful to the staff of the Coplin Clinic for their important role in keeping us all well and the employees at our local Food Fair for their dedicated service to the public in keeping our grocery shelves well-stocked and their store open for business."
