A local resident was lifeflighted to Grant Hospital in Columbus after a three-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on Ohio 60 in Devola.
Trooper Gossett of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said William Fred Van Howe Jr., 69, of Marietta, was in critical condition at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was then he was flown to Grant Hospital in Columbus.
“There were two vehicles going north toward Devola and one southbound toward Marietta,” Gossett said. “The person who was lifeflighted was the at-fault driver.”
The patrol said Howe was traveling northbound around noon Wednesday when he struck the rear of another northbound vehicle. He then went left of center and was struck by the southbound vehicle in a near head-on collision before being ejected from his vehicle.
Gossett said they don’t suspect alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the crash. Witnesses said Howe’s vehicle was weaving before the collision.
Denise Cross of Marietta was in the southbound vehicle and was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The single occupant in the other northbound vehicle did not appear to have injuries.
