Philippines Best restaurant finds home in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN — A new restaurant has taken over the boat ramp building in Williamstown, and they intend to bring some life back down to the waterfront.

Philippines Best LLC has not only brought a new name to the building, but a new and improved design as well.

The building, which was previously white brick and would become flooded when the river rose, has been given brand new appliances, a new wood finish and been placed on wheels, so if there is a chance of flooding, the building can be moved out of the way.

“We tore down an old barn door from the 1800s and you can see it on the front of the building, which just adds some cool history to the building as well,” said Chelsi Rose, part owner and the location supervisor.

Philippines Best LLC is also located in Parkersburg and the owners operate a food truck.

“Although we have some American food available, we want to encourage people to be adventurous and try new foods,” said Rose.

According to Rose, the most popular item on the menu is the chicken or pork Adobo.

Owner Elenita Lubuguin said that Adobo, which is meat and potatoes, is a sweet dish in the Philippine culture, but often people expect it to be spicy, because in Hispanic cultures it is.

“Most of our ingredients are picked up once a month in Maryland, because they are shipped from the Philippines,” said Lubuguin.

Lubuguin, who lived in the Philippines until she was an adult, said the sauces and food are all homemade with recipes her mother, who passed away earlier this year, taught her over the years.

Philippines Best LLC is not just offering food at the restaurant though, according to Rose, they offer call ahead orders, curbside pick-ups and ramp deliver for those on boats.

“We are working with the City to get a grant for boat docks, to make ourselves more available to boat traffic, but for now we do do run food down to the ramp and deliver,” said Rose.

As part of an effort to provide fun outdoor activities amid virus concerns, Lubuguin said they have ordered an inflatable screen and hope to hold an outdoor movie night for families at the boat ramp.

“We are working to make this area more family friendly, by installing a volleyball net, corn hole, a play area for kids and hosting the monthly movie nights,” said Lubuguin.

Philippines Best LLC in Williamstown is open 7 days a week 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For call ahead orders, curbside or ramp delivery dial 304-482-6122.
