MARIETTA -- One man died Thursday apparently of reasons not related to an accident he was involved in on Ohio 26 near Wingett Run where his truck jackknifed, according to the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Carl Reinhart Jr., 43, Ashville, Ohio, was driving a 2007 Freightliner south on Ohio 26 where he went off the left side of the road, jackknifed and became stuck, the patrol said.
Reinhart exited the vehicle, later asking for assistance from a passerby, the patrol said.
Reinhart then collapsed and died, the patrol said.
The Little Muskingum Squad took him to Marietta Memorial Hospital, the patrol said.
Further investigation showed there neither damage to the vehicle nor apparent injuries to Reinhart, the patrol said.
Health issues appear to be the contributing factor to his death, the patrol said.
The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Responding were Little Muskingum Volunteer Fire Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The Highway Patrol Athens Post also investigated an accident in Hocking County on Ohio 93 near Goat Run Honey Fork Road where a 1999 Saturn driven by Anthony Crosby, 41, Creola, Ohio, went left of center, off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
Crosby was taken to Hocking Valley Community Hospital by Hocking County EMS, then flown to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Troopers from the Athens Post were assisted on scene by Washington Township Fire Department, Hocking County Sheriff’s Office and Hocking County EMS.
The crash, which happened shortly before 10:30 p.m., remains under investigation.
