Marietta resident Glenn Richard Williams was sentenced to 24 months in prison Friday after pleading guilty to third-degree felony sexual battery.

Williams, 42, of 210 Broughton Ave., appeared in Washington County Common Pleas Judge Mark Kerenyi’s courtroom to plead to the bill of information. The bill said on or about Aug. 1, 2010, through Oct. 31, 2010, he engaged in sexual conduct with a juvenile girl.

While Williams sat quietly, head bowed, Washington County Prosecutor Nicole Coil described how in April 2020, the victim came forward and spoke with the Marietta Police Department about the abuse.

“During the interview with Marietta Police Department, the victim disclosed that she recalls sexual abuse by (Williams) during the period of time she was in the seventh through ninth grades, which she particularly recalled during Aug. 1, 2010, and Oct. 31, 2010,” Coil said.

During an interview with the police department, Williams admitted to inappropriate sexual conduct with the girl at his home.

The victim advocate read a statement from the victim, who was in the courtroom. The statement noted after the abuse, the victim suffered from depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder.

She said the girl also suffered from flashbacks to the abuse. She asked the judge to give Williams the maximum possible penalty, although she agreed to the 24 month sentence.

Williams did not speak in his own behalf.

He could have received a maximum of 60 months in prison. The plea agreement was for the 24 months with a mandatory five years post release control.

As a Tier III sex offender, he must register in-person with the sheriff’s office every 90 days for the rest of his life.
