WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williamstown City Council approved a three-way stop ordinance on Henderson Avenue and West Fifth Street on second reading at its Tuesday evening meeting.
A safe crossing area will be placed near the new Williamstown Elementary School.
The Williamstown Tree Committee met Monday for its first meeting in over a year, to discuss the appointment of Betty Smith, Coni Burton, Sharon Dye and Leigh Knapp. Council appointed these four people to the committee.
Tuesday was the last day for swimming in the community swimming pool, and it is being closed.
Council member Jim Stage asked council about purchasing a total of eight insertion valves.
"We are having trouble shutting down water systems in town," said Stage.
Each insertion valve will cost $15,000 including labor.
Council member Marty Seufer made a motion to approve the purchase of two insertion valves from the water department out of the contingency fund. That will require the approval of the West Virginia's State Auditor's office for Williamstown to reimburse themselves from American Rescue Plan funds. The motion was passed by council.
In other business, council plans to put a bid out on Fifth Street from Poplar Avenue to Henderson Avenue to widen the road and put up a curb in order to protect the lawns of the people living there.
-The Williamstown Planning Committee will meet Monday to discuss a strip mall on Harbor Drive. The Bee City Committee will have a Zoom meeting Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
