ATHENS, Ohio -- Authorities are investigating the shooting of a woman and the suicide of her live-in partner, the Athens County Sheriff said Friday.
Athens County 911 received a call with an open line shortly after 5 a.m. Friday, Sheriff Rodney Smith said. Deputies and dispatchers determined the call originated from an address on McDougal Road in Millfield.
Deputies were dispatched to the location and upon arrival received no answer at the door, Smith said. They found an open door at the rear of the residence, entered the home and discovered a deceased man and woman, he said.
Sheriff's Office detectives were notified and responded to process the scene, Smith said.
Evidence shows a dispute took place and Jennifer Draper, 40, was killed by a single shotgun round, Smith said. Her live-in partner, Christopher Roach, 43, of Leon, W.Va., then committed suicide, Smith said.
Both decedents were taken to the Montgomery County Coroner for autopsies ordered by the Athens County Coroner, Smith said.
The incident remains under investigation, according to Smith.
