The CARTEENS 4-H Club hosted a seat belt safety week at the Washington County Career Center.
The event wrapped up Friday morning with a seat belt check. The Ohio State Highway Patrol partnered with the 4-H club to check drivers and passengers as they arrived at school this morning. CARTEENS members tracked and surveyed the use of seat belts.
Monday morning's survey tallied 82% of drivers and passengers wearing seat belts, and after a week long of activities to promote seatbelt use that number tallied 96% Friday. CARTEENs members solicited donations from local businesses to provide a reward of a free item at a fast food establishment. These donations were used Friday to reward those following the law. Activities for the week included:
¯ Monday: Seatbelt Survey and Seatbelt relays
¯ Tuesday: Seat belt Fasten Show where students designed their own belt
¯ Wednesday: Belt the door to door decorating contest
¯ Thursday: Chalk the Walk- side walk chalk messages
¯ Friday: Seat belt check – morning as students arrived.All activities were hosted over the lunch hour with winners being awarded individual prizes and class parties. The CARTEENS 4-H club is a club that presents to teen traffic offenders each month to help reduce repeat offenses and bring awareness to safety and distracted driving, as well as proper seat belt use. The 4-H CARTEENS club volunteered their services and organized the events to help promote the use of seat belts this week.
