Show delayed due to COVID

PARKERSBURG — Opening night for a show canceled two years ago because of the pandemic has again been delayed over COVID-19 issues, the Actors Guild of Parkersburg said.

“The Producers,” a comedy by Mel Brooks, was scheduled to open 8 p.m. Friday at the Guild playhouse on Market Street.

However, the Guild is postponing “The Producers” until April 29 due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the cast and technical crew.

Patrons with tickets for shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be contacted by the box office to reschedule for another performance.

If the notification was not received or for more information, call 304-485-1300 or email tickets@actors-guild.com.

Additional shows have been added to replace the three canceled performances, the Guild said. The revised performance schedule is:

∫ 8 p.m. Friday, April 29

∫ 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, April 30

∫ 6 p.m. Sunday, May 1

∫ 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5

∫ 8 p.m. Friday, May 6

∫ 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 7

In addition to taking the week off to prevent the virus from spreading, the theater also is being sanitized prior to reopening.

“We look forward to everyone getting healthy and then bringing this show to the stage,” Director Brent Null said. “We’re confident that our audiences will find it was worth the wait.”

The show was supposed to open this time two years ago, but was canceled after the state ordered restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus. The restrictions have been lifted and auditions were held in January for several open roles caused when the actors originally cast were no longer available.

“The Producers” is a comedy about Max Bialystock, a has-been Broadway producer, and accountant Leo Bloom who hatch a scheme to bilk little old ladies out of millions of dollars they invested in the show by producing a flop, “Springtime for Hitler.”

Their plan fails when the show is a boffo hit.

Starting at $2.99/week.
