Two Marietta men were indicted in the death of 24-year-old Sarah Warrener in January.
Michael William Martin, 27, of 707 Sixth St., Marietta, was indicted on five charges, including one count of reckless homicide, a third-degree felony; one count of involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony; one count of corrupting another with drugs, a second-degree felony; and two counts of possessing drug abuse instruments, both second-degree misdemeanors.
Andrew Mykel-Tyler Davis, 30, of 105 E. Montgomery St., Marietta, was indicted on one count of permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony; and one count of obstructing official business and one count of possessing drug abuse instruments, both second-degree misdemeanors.
Washington County Prosecutor Nicole Coil said Martin, Davis and Warrener were friends. Davis and Warrener were in a relationship and lived together, she said. Martin referred to their friendship as "friendship in the drug game," she said.
Coil said on Jan. 6, the day Warrener died, Martin brought drugs to their home and Davis told investigators the three used the drugs. As a result, Warrener was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital, where she died.
The corrupting another with drugs charge is because Martin brought the drugs that were taken, Coil said.
Martin was charged with reckless homicide as he brought the illegal substance to her, although there was "always an implied understanding there is a risk of death associated with" taking drugs, she said.
He was also charged with involuntary manslaughter because he caused her death, she added.
Coil said Davis was charged with obstructing official business as he delayed the ability for Warrener to potentially receive treatment.
The two will be arraigned at 9:30 a.m. May 23 in the courtroom of Washington County Common Pleas Judge John Halliday.
Other indictments handed down Wednesday include:
¯ Houston A. Traver, 22, of 710 Main St., New Matamoras, was indicted on one count of improper use of firearms in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony. He was allegedly found with a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle when he was under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them in May 2021.
¯ Darren C. Farnese, 27, of 10 Browns Road Apt. 4A, Marietta, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He was reportedly found with methamphetamine on Pike Street, Marietta, in August 2019.
¯ Thurman W. Perdue Sr., 47, of 27830 State Route 7, Marietta, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a second-degree felony. He was reportedly found on Interstate 77 in July 2021 with an amount of methamphetamine, with the amount of drug equaling or exceeding five times the bulk amount, but less than 50 times the bulk amount.
¯ Kani L.K. Allen, 20, of 4086 Shannon Green Drive, Canal Winchester, was indicted on one count of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony. He was arrested after reportedly leading police on a chase through Washington and Wood counties in March 2021.
¯ Two local residents were arrested after reportedly striking a police officer with a motor vehicle and failing to comply with an order or signal of a police officer in a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS that was allegedly stolen on April 7.
Charles R.C. Miller, 26, of 910 Caywood Road, Marietta, was indicted on four charges, including one count of felonious assault, a first-degree felony; one count of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; one count of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; and one count of receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony.
Candice D. Knapp, 35, of 47 Strimer Drive, Parkersburg, was indicted on one fourth-degree felony count of receiving stolen property, and one fifth-degree felony count of receiving stolen property.
Along with allegedly driving a stolen vehicle, the pair also reportedly had a Visa card and Netspend Mastercard in another person's name.
Miller was also indicted in two other cases. The first was one count of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony, and the second was one count of failure to appear as required by recognizance, a fourth-degree felony. He reportedly failed to comply with a police officer in April at 804 Pike St., Marietta. He also reportedly failed to appear in Washington County Court of Common Pleas in March.
¯ Jack Kasler, 34, of 6212 Smith Run Road, Gloucester, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony. He allegedly had methamphetamine at 8600 State Route 339, Vincent, in November 2020.
¯ James D. Warner, 40, of 318 Gilman St., Marietta, was indicted on one count of violating a protection order, a fifth-degree felony. He allegedly violated the order in March on Virginia Street. He had previously been convicted of violating a protection order in October 2021 in Marietta Municipal Court.
¯ Brandon L. Gibbs, 29, of 169 Starlite Drive, Marietta, was indicted on one count of arson registration violation, a fifth-degree felony. He reportedly failed to register or reregister with the Washington County Sheriff's Office from Sept. 29, 2021, through Oct. 13, 2021.
¯ Jonathan A. Nash, 27, of 27250 Euclid Ave. Apt. 8, Euclid, was indicted on one count of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. He reportedly transported a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle on U.S. 50 in Belpre in September 2021.
¯ Jeff L. Mason Jr., 31, of 727 12th St., Massillon, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of attempted tampering with evidence, a fourth-degree felony. He was arrested after allegedly being found on I-77 in April 2021 with cocaine.
¯ Kirkland M. Dennewitz and Rebecca J. Craven were indicted on drug charges after an arrest in November 2021 at the Memorial Bridge in Belpre.
Dennewitz, 26, of 49879 Emmanuel Road, Racine, and Craven, 28, of 1334 Covert St., Parkersburg, were each indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. They were both allegedly found with methamphetamine.
¯ Austin M. Mayle, 25, of 1728 State Route 550, Amesville, was indicted on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and one count of criminal damaging or endangering, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was arrested after allegedly causing serious physical harm to his victim in June 2021 on Ohio 550 in Cutler.
¯ Anthony Ray Hart, 42, of 304 Fourth St., Beverly, was indicted on two counts of theft, both fifth-degree felonies. He allegedly stole a Dell tablet, Galaxy notepad, video camera, chalice and other miscellaneous items, along with a vehicle's validation sticker.
¯ Amy L. Smithberger, 35, of 111 N. Hart St. Apt. 7, Marietta, and Victor B. Whittekind, 33, of 814 Quarry St., Marietta, were indicted on multiple charges, after reportedly stealing and forging personal checks in December.
Smithberger was indicted on one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony; one count of receiving stolen property, a first-degree misdemeanor; two counts of forgery, fifth-degree felonies; and one count of petty theft, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Whittekind was indicted on one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony; one count of receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony; one count of complicity in the commission of an offense, a fifth-degree felony; and one count of petty theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. The pair allegedly stole checks from a vehicle in Vincent. Smithberger allegedly forged two checks in the amount of $200 each. They reportedly also stole clothing, shoes, a lottery ticket and other personal items.
¯ Richard Evan Burke, 34, of 2315 Shelva Lane, Copley, and Ryan Michael Dempsey, 40, of 5900 Richville Drive SW, Navarre, were each indicted on one count of complicity in the commission of an offense, one count of receiving stolen property, and one count of possessing criminal tools, all fifth-degree felonies. They reportedly aided and abetted in the theft of a Husqvarna MZ61 zero turn mower in October.
