The Noble County Grand Jury indicted 15 individuals Monday, including a Virginia man accused of burning a toddler.
Michael Keith Fox, 23, of Spotsylvania, Va., was indicted on one count of kidnapping, a first-degree felony, one count of aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, and one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony.
The Noble County Sheriff's Office reported they had received a 911 call July 8 from a residence on Outpost Road, requesting an ambulance due to a toddler receiving burns.
The sheriff's report said United Ambulance Service and Belle Valley First Responders were dispatched to the residence. The child was then transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital due to the severity of the burn injuries, the report stated.
After being examined in the emergency department, personnel from the hospital notified the Noble County Sheriff's Office that it was suspected that the injuries were a result of child abuse, the report states.
Noble County Children's Services, along with a deputy from the sheriff's office responded to Marietta Memorial. Sheriff's detectives were then notified and then took over the investigation with the continued assistance of Noble County Children's Services, the report noted.
The child was transferred to Akron Children's Hospital Burn Unit and admitted for treatment of burn injuries.
Fox was originally charged with felonious assault after admissions were made about how the burns had occurred to the child, the sheriff's office reported.
It was reported the Noble County Health Department was requested by the Noble County sheriff to inspect the residence. After the inspection, the residence was deemed unlivable and therefore condemned for human habitation.
Others indicted include:
¯ Wykeitha Dudley, 35, of Akron, was indicted on one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle, a fifth-degree felony.
¯ Nathan Glidden, 18, of Caldwell, was indicted on one count of breaking and entering and one count of vandalism, both fifth-degree felonies; and one count of failure to comply with underage alcohol laws, a first-degree misdemeanor.
¯ Devon Payton, 31, of Euclid, was indicted on one count of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony.
¯ Bradley Powell, 42, of Quaker City, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.
¯ Jessie Short, 39, of Caldwell, was indicted on one count of illegal manufacture of drugs, a first-degree felony, and one count of illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a second-degree felony.
There were also nine secret indictments that included 14 counts:
¯ One count each of attempted aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony; illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto grounds of a specified governmental facility, a third-degree felony; falsification, a first-degree misdemeanor; and possession of drugs, a first-degree misdemeanor.
¯ Two counts each of attempted illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto grounds of a specified governmental facility, both fourth-degree felonies.
¯ Eight counts of aggravated possession of drugs, fifth-degree felonies.
