Frontier talks fundraising, employees
NEWPORT — The Frontier Local Schools Board of Education met Thursday at Frontier High School to discuss fundraising activities, possible purchases, new employees and other agenda items.
Addendum items related to the treasurer consisted of fundraising activities regarding the class of 2027 Rada sale, an agreement with data serve, and several other topics.
Items related to the superintendents business covered supplemental contracts for the 2022 through 2023 school year to hire Junior High cheerleader advisors Stacy Arnold and Whitney Casey.
Donations to the school district included $2,554.40 from anonymous sources to high school student council for a community member, $926 from anonymous sources to high school student council for Strecker Cancer Center, $68.68 from Kroger cares to high school student council, $250 from Newport Elementary School craft show to the Newport Elementary School principal’s fund for student school supplies, $360 from the Wayne Outfitters to the high school principal’s fund for the outdoor club, and $330 from Newport Baptist youth to the Food Service fund for student lunches.
Fundraising activities featured the FFA Haunted Trail, as well as the club’s fruit sale, the Neon Night sale, and the class of 2027 Rada sale.
Other agenda items included the disposal of unused, unneeded, obsolete and/or damaged equipment of the portable heater at Frontier High Middle School; reimbursement of travel expenses for driver’s education instructor Bobby Mendenhall for training purposes; the renewal with One America/American United Life to provide basic life and disability insurance for employees at $.085 for life and $.015 for accidental death per $1,000 of coverage effective Jan. 1, 2023 through Dec. 31, 2024; an agreement with Constellation Gas to supply natural gas as recommended by Energy Alliances Energy Consultant at a rate of $6.95 per Mcf for 36 months; the purchase from BSN Sports for the FHMS locker rooms of two locker room clocks for $2,999.90, paid from the General Fund; an agreement with Pioneer Pipe to remove an existing curb and install an ADA access ramp for the board office entrance for a total of $6,793; an agreement with Status Security; and a five-year technology plan for a total of $11,625.
One year employment contracts pending proper certification were granted to Teresa Swan as the Matamoras Elementary School intervention specialist effective Aug. 19, 2022 and Tina Albrecht as the high school science teacher effective Oct. 12, 2022; and employment for Sally Tripletti, as director of special programs, with a salary of $56,000 for 192 days as part of a one-year contract effective Oct. 10, 2022, pending proper certification.
The board also accepted the resignation of the supplemental contracts for the 2022 through 2023 school year for Jonathan Mendenhall, as Junior High assistant boys basketball coach.
The next regular board meeting will be held on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. at the FHMS Media Center.
