Memorial Health System is the second most active clinical trial site in the Columbus National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program, a consortium of hospitals expanding throughout central, southeastern and northern Ohio.
Through its affiliation with the program, Memorial Health System access to clinical cancer trials are readily available to the region. Through ongoing nationally recognized cancer research and through clinical trials, Memorial Health System can offer treatments that won't be available to the general public for months or years.
Clinical trials are conducted by an expert oncology team dedicated to improving the detection, treatment and outcome of cancer-related diseases.
"Memorial Health System has been participating in NCI (National Cancer Institute) sponsored clinical trials since May 1, 2002," Lori Parker, RN, clinical research coordinator, said. "Our trial portfolio includes treatment trials, symptom management studies as well as studies looking at the potential financial toxicities associated with cancer care, and studies focusing on quality-of-lifeissues associated with a diagnosis of cancer. Today's clinical trial may be tomorrow's 'standard of care.'"
