A Parkersburg man was killed in an accident Wednesday morning on Ohio 7 near Lower Newport, the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
Mark Doyle, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene near milepost 32, the patrol said.
Doyle was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry south on Ohio 7 that went left of center and struck a northbound commercial vehicle driven by Don Gray, 39, of Dennison, Ohio, the patrol said.
The commercial vehicle, a 2020 Freightliner, lost its left fuel tank leaving diesel fuel on the roadway and came to rest off the right side of the road, the patrol said. The semi did not lose any of its contents, the patrol said.
Doyle was pronounced deceased at the scene while the Pleasants County EMS took Gray to Marietta Memorial Hospital for minor injuries, the patrol said. The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The road was treated for diesel fuel by Pinetree Towing and drivers were encouraged to travel with caution, the patrol said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Marietta Post.
Agencies on scene included the Ohio Department of Transportation, Newport Volunteer Fire Department, Pleasants County EMS, the Washington County Sheriff's Office and Pine Tree Towing.
