Marietta City Council conducted a special council meeting outside of its regular schedule Thursday night in order to pass legislation on an emergency basis.
The legislation could not be handled in that manner at the Dec. 1 council meeting because two council absences curbed the group's ability to suspend rules at that time.
The council will return to to its next regularly scheduled meeting at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15.
Thursday's legislation receiving suspension of rules for third reading, followed by unanimous adoption included:
¯ Authorization to advertise for bids and enter into a contract or contracts to demolish the current water treatment plant facilities and build a new reverse osmosis water treatment plant on the same site.
¯ Authorization to enter a contract with Dmytryka Jacobs Engineers of Toledo for engineering services involved in the upgrading of the aeration tank valves for the wastewater treatment plant systems. The amount is not to exceed $38,514.
¯ Authorizing the city auditor to establish a "Police Retention – ARPA Fund" as a fund for the city.
¯ Authorizing the Public Safety Director to enter into Change Order No. 2 to the contract between the city and Pickering Associates for an Americans with Disabilities Act compliance upgrade project at the city's building at 304 Putnam St. The amount is not to exceed $10,900. The building houses the Marietta/Belpre health department and the Marietta engineering department, among other city offices.
¯ An amended ordinance authorizing the Public Safety Director to enter into Change Order No. 1 with Pickering Associates for the Waste Water Treatment Plant aeration system upgrades project, in an amount not to exceed $27,200. The original ordinance authorized the change order not to exceed the amount of $10,400.
Council also heard first reading of the ordinance making budget appropriations for 2023.
Council members were reminded of the upcoming Dec. 12 public meeting for Reimagine Marietta. The session is designed to provide information on updating the city's comprehensive strategic plan and zoning codes, and to seek public input on those activities. The meeting is 6-8 p.m. Dec. 12 at Washington State Community College cafeteria.
