The Malta-McConnelsville Rotary Club has contributed $10,000 to the Washington State Community College Foundation to establish a scholarship in the organization's name.
A press release said the scholarship was created to perpetuate the organization's mission to provide services to others, promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.
According to the release Chris Penrose, former Malta-McConnelsville Rotary Club president and 30-plus-year Rotary member, explained that the organization has a long history of providing local high school graduates with scholarships, and as community leaders, they made a corporate decision to establish a scholarship at WSCC that would allow them to also support adults from the Morgan County community who are pursuing an education.
The Malta-McConnelsville Rotary Club Scholarship is an endowed scholarship that will annually benefit a Morgan County resident in good academic standing who has financial need with first consideration given to an adult student, or a student with dependent children, the release said.
The Washington State Community College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable corporation administered by a Board of Directors composed of community leaders and institutional representatives. It said gifts made to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law and are used exclusively to support the college's mission, its programs and its students.
