ProFusion Industries workers on strike

MARIETTA — About 100 ProFusion Industries workers have been on strike since 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

The members of International Chemical Workers Union Local 343 are the hourly workforce at the ProFusion plant at 700 B.F. Goodrich Road just outside Marietta.

The most recent extension on their contract expired Friday, said Ed Rempel, rep for the International Chemical Workers Union Council. At issue are not just wages but matters involving seniority, job bidding and more, Rempel said.

ProFusion, formerly part of RJF International, manufactures and distributes polymer-based products used in a variety of applications, including packaging and vehicle floorlining and matting.

The company implemented a two-tiered system in 2012, Rempel said, placing new hires under different conditions than those who’d been with the company prior to that.

“The workers are just … tired of the concessions,” Rempel said. “They need to make an equal playing field for both tier one and tier two groups.”

More than 70% of the striking workers are part of the second tier, he said.

“They’re doing the same job; they’re getting less pay,” Rempel said.

Messages left at the ProFusion office had not been returned as of Monday afternoon.
