Boil water advisory in effect for Wells Avenue residents

An estimated 40 water customers on Wells Avenue in Marietta were to have service interrupted Monday by emergency repairs on a water main, according to Water Superintendent Jeff Kephart.

After service is restored, a boil water advisory will be in effect for 24 hours unless otherwise notified. Customers who have experienced a loss of water service or pressure are advised to rapid boil their drinking and food preparation water for two minutes following restoration of water service.

Customers may call the Water Treatment Plant at 740-374-6864 for information. Information on the cancellation of the boil advisory also can be found on the City of Marietta Facebook page and from local media outlets.

All affected water service locations have or will be flushed to re-establish a safe water supply, Kephart said. That means effective chlorine residual will be present to provide protection against bacteriological contamination.

All customers should flush their own service lines through the cold water lines only until the water is clear, Kephart said. Brown water from mineral deposits or cloudy water from exposure to air are normal discolorations experienced after a water service interruption.

Starting at $2.99/week.
