Maeghan is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program. She is the daughter of Erin O'Neill of Marietta and the granddaughter of Willa O'Neill of Marietta.
At the Career Center, O'Neill is a member of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization (president), student council (president), students solving problems and is the class vice president for her technical program. Through BPA, she competed in an extemporaneous speech last school year and earned her way to compete at the national level in Dallas, Texas. She has consistently been on the principal list or honor roll every nine weeks.
At Marietta High School, she is active in choir and theater as well as Model UN and student council. She's received awards for Ohio all-state honor choir and outstanding vocalist attended the national student leadership conference and placed top score for the Americanism test in math.
Maeghan volunteers as a student teacher at the middle school. She has earned industry-recognized credentials and/or college credit for adobe creative cloud: digital photography, digital storytelling, digital video effects, graphic design, illustrator, InDesign, live streaming and production, photoshop, and video production. In addition, she's earned college and high school credits for academics in American national government, English composition, film, and world history.
O'Neill is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for creating & editing digital graphics, design techniques, information technology, multimedia & image management techniques, and video & sound.
Graphic Design & Video Production instructor, Chris Palmer, commented, "Maeghan is a wonderful student who demonstrates her passion and creativity through design.
Her finished products are always unique and represent a fresh approach to the topic."
She is currently employed for The Company at The Valley Gem as a performer. She plans to finish her associate degree at Washington State Community College for technical study upon graduation.
She aspires to attend the School of Visual Arts at New York University to obtain her bachelor's degree in either theater or animation.
Austin Powell is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Electricity program, and he is the son of Josh and Jess Powell of Beverly.
At the Career Center, Powell is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and the national technical honor society. He has received awards for the Career Center's principal list and honor roll. At Fort Frye High School, he is an active athlete in football (team captain), wrestling (team captain), and track.
Austin has earned industry-recognized credentials for the national center for construction education and research - Core & Level 1 as well as occupational safety and health administration - 10-hour training. He is taking course offerings and learning skills for commercial & industrial construction electrical systems, electrical construction systems, construction safety and crew leadership, and residential electrical systems. Electricity instructor, Jeff Canterbury, commented, "Austin is an asset to the class with strong academic and technical skills and excellent attendance. He is consistently at the top of the class."
Powell is currently working at Sandy's Bargain Barn, in Waterford, which is a family-owned business. He plans to attend Muskingum University for wrestling and to obtain a bachelor's degree in business administration.
