¯ Police were dispatched to Walmart March 14 regarding a shoplifter who had been caught not scanning $83 in items. Devonte Wooden, 29, was charged with theft and was released on a personal recognizance bond.
¯ Police were dispatched March 15 to Quality Inn on Pike Street in reference to squatters in a room. Upon arrival and investigation, police found that Shayla Kai Youngblood, who had initially provided a false name, was in possession of a backpack stolen from a guest. While speaking with Youngblood, the other squatter, Chaden Christopher Bruce, ignored the order to leave the property. Bruce, 20, was arrested for trespassing. Youngblood, 21, was arrested for theft and obstructing official business. Both were taken to the Washington County Jail.
¯ Police were dispatched March 16 to the 600 block of Montgomery Street regarding a disturbance where a female was shouting and then glass was heard breaking. After units arrived on scene, the male resident identified as Anthony Ross, 42, was found to be highly intoxicated, belligerent and refusing to let officers check for the involved female. Ross then slammed his door shut and went further back into the residence, refusing further contact with police. Due to concerns about the subject possibly arming himself, police units formed a perimeter around the house and contacted the Special Response Team. The SRT arrived and the subject refused to respond to negotiations. Several bean bag rounds were lobbed into Ross' windows. He fled out the back door, where he was confronted and then surrendered. Ross was taken into custody. The female victim was contacted and admitted to a violent situation in which Ross had grabbed her wrists and caused her to fear for her safety. Ross was charged with two counts of domestic violence and obstructing official business. He was taken to Washington County Jail.
¯ Police were dispatched March 16 to the Broughton Medical Campus of Marietta Memorial Health System on North Seventh Street in reference to threats made via telephone. Upon arrival police made contact with the medical staff. A recording of the telephone call was listened to and statements were collected. Police made contact with the suspect, who was in mental health distress and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
¯ Police responded to a criminal mischief complaint March 16 in the 100 block of Fay Avenue. When police arrived they found toilet paper on a basketball hoop and a vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence in question. A juvenile was found to have committed the criminal mischief. The incident was resolved by having the juvenile clean up the mess.
¯ Police were dispatched to a disturbance in the 400 block of Marion Street March 17. Upon arrival, police made contact with both parties and talked to them about their behavior.
¯ Police were dispatched March 17 to the 900 block of Gilman Avenue in reference to a domestic between Christopher Lee Watson and a female. After investigation, Watson, 35, was arrested for domestic violence and taken to the Washington County Jail.
¯ Police responded to Walmart March 17 in reference to shoplifting of $77 of groceries. Alexis Faye Wells, 25, was charged with misdemeanor theft and released on a recognizance bond.
¯ Units responded to the 400 block of Marion Street again March 17 in reference to another disturbance. At the conclusion of the investigation, Caroline Emerick, 54, was arrested for disorderly conduct, failure to cease and desist.
¯ Police responded March 18 to the 300 block of Colegate Drive and met with a resident. A keyhole to the victim's trunk had been damaged during the night.
¯ A man came into Marietta Police Department headquarters March 19 to confess to the molestation of a juvenile female in 2011. The victim, now an adult, was located. She was interviewed and she disclosed the abuse. Patrick M. Montgomery, 47, was arrested for rape and jailed.
¯ Police responded March 19 to Eighth Street in reference to a possible suicidal male. An investigation was conducted and police transported the male to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
¯ Police were dispatched to the Speedway in the 400 block of Muskingum Drive March 19 in reference to a motor vehicle robbery. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who advised an unknown male had entered her vehicle and tried to steal it. She entered the vehicle and was threatened with a weapon by the suspect, who ordered her out of the car and fled the area in it. Through investigation the suspect was identified and later captured in Wood County by West Virginia authorities. A warrant was issued and the suspect is awaiting extradition back to Ohio.
¯ Police responded to Walmart March 19 in reference to a theft. David Martin Sucik, 59, tried to conceal multiple items worth $59 in his pants and leave the store without paying for them. Police arrested Sucik, 59, for theft.
¯ A Marietta resident reported to police March 19 that they thought they were the subject of a possible scam.
¯ Police responded March 20 to the 300 block of Colegate in reference to a female acting erratically. After investigation, police took the female to Marietta Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation.
¯ Police were at the scene on a separate call in the 300 block of Colegate when the resident advised that someone stole his medications, and identified houseguests as suspects.
¯ Multiple victims in the area of 1201 and 1209 County House Lane had catalytic converters stolen from vehicles. Police were dispatched March 20 to the area and statements and photos were collected from the victims. Police reviewed security footage from a nearby business. The case will remain under investigation.
¯ Police talked to a complainant at the police station March 20 who stated a COVID relief loan had been taken out in his name without his knowledge.
¯ Police responded to a March 20 call from the 500 block of Aurora Street about a disturbance. After investigation, it was learned that a female and male who lived together at the address had been involved in a verbal dispute that escalated to a physical dispute, resulting in harm to the female. As a result, Edward James McCauley was arrested for domestic violence and was taken to the Washington County Jail. While enroute to the jail, McCauley tried to get revenge on the police officer and was charged with felony intimidation of a witness.
