Washington County summer job program

From staff reports

A summer job employment program is going to be available for teens ages 14-18 who live and go to school in Washington County, provided they live in families that meet household income requirements, fill out the program applications and make sure the applications are received by the April 10 deadline.

The program, administered through the Washington County Department of Job and Family Services, will run May 1 through Sept. 30, and is subsidized with state funds designated as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF.

Youths who meet the program requirements must fill out TANF Summer Youth Employment Program applications. Amanda Sutphin, Workforce Development Director for Job and Family Services, said every high school in the county has the applications, in guidance offices or other locations. Applications also can be mailed to students who contact OhioMeansJobs.com.

There are several employment worksites that are going to be available throughout Washington County, according to Sutphin, and eligible youth will have the chance to meet employers at this year’s Career Connect Job Fair to be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26 in the Junior Fair Building at the Washington County Fairgrounds. She said there are already 25 employers signed up for the job fair.

Pay for the summer job program will be dependent upon the employer involved.

To qualify for the TANF Summer Youth Employment Program students must:

¯ Be enrolled in a secondary school at the time of application, and be between the ages of 14 and 18.

¯ Live in Washington County.
