The Marietta Police Department collected 187 pounds of unused medication at the Spring Drug Enforcement Administration's Drug Take Back on April 22.
April 18
¯ The police department's school resource officer was contacted by the Marietta High School vice principal in reference to assault of a female student that took place in the girls' bathroom. Assault charges will be sent to juvenile court on another female student.
April 19
¯ Units responded to the Washington County Fairgrounds in reference to a fire. Upon arrival, it was learned that Austin Saxon Papa, 28, intentionally set fire to an empty semi-trailer that was used for hauling hay. Papa was arrested for felony arson and transported to the Washington County Jail.
¯ Police responded to Walmart in reference to a shoplifting of $118 in merchandise. The suspect was identified as Amanda Lynn Phillips, 32. Phillips also had two warrants held by the Marietta Police Department. She was charged with theft and transported to the Washington County Jail.
April 20
¯ Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Colegate Drive in reference to a disturbance. As a result, William J. Lucas, 50, was placed under arrest for assault and taken to the Washington County Jail.
¯ Police responded to the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in reference to the theft of a bicycle, with potential suspects known. Police conducted interviews and opened a theft investigation.
April 21
¯ Police were dispatched to the 100 block of State Street in reference to a trespass complaint. Upon arrival and after investigation it was found that a female from an auctioneer's office and realty company had walked into a detached garage, thinking it belonged to another property. The case is being forwarded to the city law director's office.
April 22
¯ Police investigated a property damage complaint in the 200 block of Capt. D. Seely MIA Drive. A car had its front and rear windshields broken. An off-duty Washington County Deputy identified the person who did it. William Scott Ward, 59, was arrested for criminal damaging and was released on a personal recognizance bond.
April 23
¯ Police observed a motorcycle traveling at a very high rate of speed in the 200 block of Greene Street. Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the motorcycle after catching up to it on the Putnam Bridge. The motorcycle failed to yield or comply. The first responding unit and multiple other units from the police department followed the motorcycle through the city. It then crashed in a field at Camp Tupper in the 700 block of Third Street. The operator of the motorcycle, identified as Vincent Nicholas Desimone, 22, was taken into custody and later transported to the Washington County Jail. He was charged with fleeing and eluding as well as OVI (refusal).
¯ Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Terrace Avenue in reference to a theft. Police learned that a man ordered wings, salad and pizza from Napoli's, with the food coming to a total of $32.75. The man handed the driver a wad of money after receiving the food, then closed his front door. The driver counted the money, which came to $9. The driver knocked on the door but the man refused to answer it. Police also attempted to make contact with the man by knocking on his door but he would not answer. A summons for theft is being prepared.
April 24
¯ Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Warren Street in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim, who said eight pieces of yard equipment for sale had been displayed on the lawn strip, and had been taken from the yard. At this time, video of the suspect's vehicle has been obtained and the case is under further investigation.
