Oak Grove Center to open new bathroom facility

Muskingum Township is getting ready to open its new, permanent bathroom facility at Oak Grove Recreation Center for the upcoming season.
The upgrade, which replaces a portable bathroom, was made possible with a $33,000 Nature Works grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
"This has been something we've wanted and talked about for 10 or 12 years," township trustee Gary Doan said.
They started the grant process in 2019 and they completed the project in November 2022, Doan said. The bathroom was winterized during the cold weather.
"I would like to see some special recognition go to Darlene Lukshin of the Ohio State Extension office, who started the work to get this grant for us, and to Shannon Schott, continuing the effort when Darlene retired and Shannon was at the Washington County Engineer's office," Doan said. "Those two are responsible for us getting the money."
The new bathroom structure contains a commode, sink and hand dryer. Contracting work was done by Doug Lowe and plumbing by R.W. Miller.
The recreation center of about 2.5 acres is located behind Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department and Oak Grove Christian School. It has a small area of playground equipment for children right next to the picnic shelter. About 90 people can be accommodated at the picnic tables and the new bathroom is a few yards away.
The picnic shelter can be reserved by going online to muskingumtwp.org.
