Veterans Walk of Honor ceremony set at Armory

2 min read

Twenty-eight newly engraved bricks will be added to the Veterans Walk of Honor at Armory Square in a ceremony from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday.

The observance is a tradition started almost 30 years ago by Marietta Mayor Michael "Moon" Mullen, according to the current president of Armory Square Inc., Harley Noland.

The walk, which is on the U.S. Post Office side of the Armory, is maintained by the City of Marietta. All funds received are used by Armory Square Inc. to continue the service of supplying and installing the personalized bricks, and for the renovation, preservation and future use of the area at the Armory, Noland said.

There will be families traveling to Marietta for the Friday ceremony to honor the U.S. military service of their loved ones. One family Noland knows of will be coming from North Carolina, and one family has five or six bricks being installed.

Anyone who wishes to purchase a memorial brick can find the red, white and blue order form on the ground floor of the Armory in the rack of materials near the Convention and Visitors Bureau office. Although name and date of service are usually included, there is no set inscription required on a memorial brick. The order form has spaces to fill in for the desired display of information.
