Fallen officers honored during National Police Week

Law enforcement officers in Washington County gathered Monday morning for National Police Week observances at memorials honoring officers who have died in the line of duty.
The U.S. and Ohio flags were at half staff at Third and Putnam streets, where memorial wreaths were displayed on behalf of the City of Marietta Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Marietta College Police Department.
Marietta Police Chief Katie Warden and Washington County Sheriff Larry R. Mincks Sr. accepted and placed their departments' wreaths and were escorted by honor guard to the sites.
Marietta Mayor Joshua Schlicher read the city proclamation for the observance and Sheriff's Office Chaplain T.E. Noe read scripture and prayers that addressed the dedication, loyalty and sacrifice of those who were being remembered.
The Book of Proverbs explains how to live, Noe said, citing two verses of Proverbs Chapter 27: "Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart." Proverbs 27: 19; and "You use steel to sharpen steel, and one friend sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17.
"These men," Noe said, "were sharpened steel."
The peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty were:

¯ Frank Wilson, 01-15-1949, Beverly Police Department
¯ Donald O. McLaughlin, 08-16-1970, Beverly Police Department.
