A few more candidates may appear on the general election ballot in Marietta and Belpre in November.
Independent candidates had until Monday to file to run, said Mandy Amos, director of the Washington County Board of Elections. Three who did so have been certified, while four others are due to be considered at the board's June 14 meeting.
One of those candidates who was certified was inadvertently omitted from a list of general election candidates that appeared in Thursday's edition. Independent James Nelson will face Republican Susan Abdella in the race for Belpre mayor. Abdella was unopposed in Tuesday's primary.
Belpre Councilman Alan Millhone has also filed to run for mayor, according to the Board of Elections. His certification will be considered at the June meeting.
Three candidates for citywide office in Marietta also filed by the deadline -- mayoral hopefuls Ann Labes and Jeff Walker and Alison Arocho, who is seeking the auditor's seat.
Marietta Mayor Josh Schlicher and Auditor Sherri Hess were unopposed in the Republican primary.
Independent candidate Shoshanna Brooker will face Republican Randall Jedlink in the general election contest for Marietta Municipal Court judge. Independent Jon Grimm is seeking one of three Marietta City Council at-large seats, along with Republicans Cassidi Shoaf and Marjorie Bevans and Democrats William Farnsworth, Harley Noland and Kevin Paskawych.
Write-in candidates have until 4 p.m. Aug. 28 to file to run in the general election.
Multiple township trustee and fiscal officer positions will also be on the general election ballot.
