St. Marys concert band to play in Blennerhassett show

PARKERSBURG -- The St. Marys Community Concert Band will present "An Evening at Blennerhassett Island" at 6:30 p.m. June 10 on the island.
The concert is free, but transportation to the island will be aboard the Valley Gem with tickets costing $12 for ages 13 and older, $8 for ages 3-12 and free for under 3.
The boat can be boarded at the dock at Point Park between 5 and 5:30 p.m. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last until 7:45 p.m.
For the return to the mainland, the Valley Gem will begin loading around 8:30 p.m. for a 9 p.m. dock time.

Under the direction of Rocky Wiseman, Dave Burton and Wayne Smith, the band will perform several pieces for the concert including John Knox's "Blennerhassett Suite" that tells the story of the island through music from its discovery to its ultimate demise as a residence of the Blennerhassett family.
In the piece, narration is by Margaret Blennerhassett who will be portrayed by Paula Oliverio, the resident actress who plays Margaret on the island.
The band will perform "Blennerhassett's March and Quickstep," written for pianoforte by Harman Blennerhassett in the late 1700s and bequeathed to his son, Joseph, in a collection of compositions for future publication. The pianoforte piece was re-scored and arranged for the concert band by Eric Croasmun with reviews and suggestions for edits by Wiseman and Chris Bunner.
Also to be presented is "Blennerhassett's Melody of Love," another piano piece written by Lee Ice of Sistersville in 1923.
The band will complete the concert with music stylized in the era of the Revolutionary War Period and the early 1800's when the island settled by Harman and Margaret Blennerhassett.
