¯ Deputy Thornberry began an investigation in Wesley Township regarding damage to a USPS bin.
April 29
¯ Deputy Derkin began an investigation into stolen firearms.
¯ April 29: Sgt. Painter observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the oncoming lane. The vehicle speed was confirmed at 80 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted, with the driver being identified as Brian J. Orsborne, 10375 Poplar Drive, Glouster. A citation for speed was issued to Orsborne.
¯ Sgt. Painter while patrolling Ohio 7, Belpre Township, observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the oncoming lane. The vehicle speed was confirmed at 82 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted, with the driver being identified as Cody A. Irick, 14 Forsythia Ave., Davisville. A citation was issued to Irick for speed.
April 30
¯ Lt. Brown was patrolling Muskingum Drive, Pioneer Township, when he observed a white sedan with an equipment violation. The registration was checked and found to be expired on March 29. A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver and owner. An odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. When asked, the passenger, identified as Sean McGee, stated he had smoked marijuana earlier. McGee was asked to exit the vehicle and asked if he had anything on his person. He stated he had some marijuana in a baggie. McGee removed the baggie from his pocket along with a glass smoking device. A citation was issued to McGee, 1005 Ohio 821, Marietta, for possession of marijuana. A warning citation was issued to the driver for the registration being expired.
¯ Deputies responded to Ohio 676, Palmer Township, in reference to a report of Richard Pritchett shooting a sump pump outside a home. Pritchett stated he had asked his brother to stop using the sump pump to pump water out of their basement and into a field, as it was causing him to become sick. Pritchett stated that after hearing the pump start, he went to the residence with a shotgun and shot the pump three times. A summons is being requested for Richard A. Pritchett, 54, 6046 Ohio 676, Stockport, on a charge of criminal damage. The replacement cost of the equipment would be $305.
¯ While conducting stationary patrol on Ohio 7, Newport Township, Sgt. Stillson observed a white Ford Ranger pass in front of him. The vehicle was observed to have equipment violations, as well as it being unclear if there was a license plate displayed. The driver would weave back and forth in his lane. Upon catching up to the vehicle, Sgt. Stillson immediately observed the vehicle leave the roadway (right side), almost striking a guard rail. Sgt. Stillson continued behind the vehicle, conducting a traffic stop, with the vehicle continuing to weave in the lane. The driver, Hunter Scott Douglas, had speech and movement that were lethargic, as well as the odor of an intoxicating beverage. Douglas stated he had one beer at a friend’s home and agreed to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety tests. Douglas, 23, 11 Glenna St., Newport, was transported to the Marietta Police Department where he agreed to a BAC test. The results were .089. Douglas was issued a citation for driving under the influence.

¯ Deputy Norris began an investigation in Newport Township regarding stolen winch pullers and extension ladders.
May 2
¯ Deputy Ullom, after initiating a traffic stop, requested charges be filed on three juveniles, between the age of 15 and 17, for aggravated trafficking and possession of marijuana.
¯ Deputy Norris began an investigation in Waterford Township in reference to stolen items from storage unit(s).
May 3
¯ Deputy Harlow completed a private property accident report for two juveniles where one failed to yield to the other in the parking lot at the Washington County Career Center.
May 4
¯ Deputy Derkin responded to Palmer Township to a report of items stolen from a work site to include 50 2″ piping joints. Also attempted to steal was a suspension off of a work truck, which was not completed, however destroyed in the process.

May 8
¯ Deputy Schwendeman responded to meet with a Newport Township resident who had their Ohio EBT card used to make fraudulent purchase(s) over $600.
¯ Deputy Schwendeman responded to Ingram Road, Newport Township, to a report that James D. Rhodes brandished a sawed-off shotgun at occupants of a residence. Deputies met with Rhodes, who denied the allegations. A search was done at the residence by Marietta Municipal Court Probation Department. A safe was located in Rhodes’ bedroom. Rhodes furnished the key for the safe and it was found to contain a loaded single-shot 12 gauge shotgun with a pistol grip. The barrel appeared to have been sawed off. The overall length of the barrel was approximately 13 inches. The call was closed as unfounded but Rhodes is under disability to possess a firearm because he was convicted of a felony drug offense in Washington County Common Pleas Court in January 2023. James Dennis Rhodes, 47, 519 Ingram Road, Newport, was placed under arrest and charged with having weapons while under disability and unlawful possession of dangerous ordnance. Rhodes was transported to the Washington County Jail.
May 9
¯ Sgt. Stillson, while patrolling Ohio 7 in Newport Township, observed a gray Kia Soul traveling at 65 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour zone. This speed was confirmed by radar. A traffic stop was conducted with the driver, Patricia Hummel, who was found to not have a driver’s license. A warning was issued to Hummel for the speed and she was issued a citation for driving without a driver’s license.
¯ Deputy Thornberry responded to Eramet, Warren Township, to conduct a report of tools missing from a contractor’s vehicle. The stolen goods were valued at more than $2,000.
¯ Sgt. Stillson was waiting at the traffic-controlled intersection of Pike Street and Greene Street, Pioneer Township, when he observed a Ford Explorer traveling north on Pike Street, entering the intersection while their traffic control was red, then proceeding to make a left turn to travel west onto Greene Street, then onto Seventh Street. A traffic stop was initiated on the driver, Erin C. Stewart. Stewart knew she ran the stop light. A citation was issued to Stewart, 1175 Cole Coffman Road, Marietta, for disobeying a traffic control device.
May 11
¯ Deputy Norris met with a victim of fraud in reference to a subject stating that he was with Publisher’s Clearinghouse.
