Marietta’s Castle to host third cemetery tour July 1

The Castle will host its third cemetery tour of the season July 1 at Mound Cemetery in Marietta.

Tours begin at 10 a.m. and noon, and admission is $10.

The theme for the tour is: “Patriots Tour” at Mound Cemetery, Fifth and Scammel streets.

Residents are invited to commemorate America’s upcoming 246th Independence Day with a stroll through Marietta’s most historic cemetery in order to learn the amazing stories of Marietta’s Revolutionary War soldiers. The tour will explore new stories of the patriots, according to Castle Education Director Kyle Yoho.

Online information at The Castle’s website says the cemetery tour guide will use an enhanced speaker system to ensure adequate audio levels and social distancing.

These “tour tips” are also provided:

¯ Tours last up to one hour and 15 minutes.

¯ Walking takes place across uneven ground and among headstones.

¯ Those on the tour may be standing at some locations for around 10 to 15 minutes.

¯ Dress appropriately for the weather and take water, walking sticks or easily carried folding chairs.

Those who have reservations or tickets should check in with the Castle team member with a clipboard. Unless otherwise noted, tickets will continue to be sold onsite. Paying for admission with exact change will be appreciated.

Future cemetery tours include “Remember the Ladies” at Mound Cemetery, Aug. 12; and “Bringing Forth Those Pioneers 2023” at Mound Cemetery, Oct. 21.
