Dr. Josh Jacobs, Vice President for Advancement at Marietta College, has been appointed to serve out the Southeastern Ohio Port Authority Board of Governors term of departing Marietta College President Dr. William N. Ruud.
In addition, current board member Dr. Tony Huffman, superintendent of the Washington County Career Center, will replace Ruud as vice chair on SEOPA's Executive Committee.
The announcements were made by SEOPA Executive Director Jesse Roush following Washington County Commissioners' approval of Jacobs' recommendation at their meeting last week.
Ruud's current three-year term ends Aug. 31, 2025.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve on this great board and to work alongside such dedicated individuals. I am so proud of the progress that we have made and the positive impact we have had on the Marietta, Washington County and Southeast Ohio communities," Ruud said in his board resignation letter to Roush and Board Chairman Matt Edgell. "Thank you again for the opportunity to serve on this great board and I wish you all the success in the future."
Roush added, "We will certainly miss Dr. Ruud's presence on our board. In his seven years of service with us, he helped us make stronger connections to the college and the community."
Jacobs has served in his present position at the college since 2020. Among his responsibilities and accomplishments he supervises all fundraising, grants, alumni engagement, summer camps and conferences of the college. He serves on the President's Cabinet and leads Advancement and Trusteeship committees for the trustees. His volunteer service and civic activities in the area include the Sternwheel Festival Committee, Rotary -- Marietta Morning Club, Shale Crescent USA and the Athletic Training Master's Degree Advisory Board at Marietta College.
"Dr. Jacobs brings a wealth of operational experience to our board and he ensures we maintain our strong connection to the college as we move forward," Roush said.
