PARKERSBURG — WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center and West Virginia University at Parkersburg joined for the second annual Teen Medical Explorers Academy.
Youth in the Teen Medical Explorers Academy are 13-17-years old and learn about local healthcare services and careers. The program was held Monday through Wednesday with participants spending Tuesday at the hospital.
The day-long session on Tuesday at the hospital included the Lab, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Department, Rehabilitation Services, Surgery and Perioperative Services and Radiology. The Camden Clark leadership team also visited with participants throughout the day.
“We were thrilled to participate in the WVU Parkersburg Teen Medical Explorers Academy again this year,” Heather Mace, interim director of professional practice and education at Camden Clark, said.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the students, but also for Camden Clark to share the wide-ranging job opportunities available in healthcare locally and how we work together to care for our patients and community,” she said. “The students were engaged, learned a lot and had fun. We appreciate them taking time out of their summer to visit Camden Clark.”
Program topics covered throughout the academy include use of personal protection equipment, taking vitals and patient care, wheelchair and crutch safety, CPR certification, occupations within the medical field, mock OR and OB simulations.
