This summer has been busy for the Fort Frye FFA!
At the beginning of June the Fort Frye FFA Officer Team traveled to their Officer Retreat at Mohican State Park. There the team worked on developing their leadership skills and created a program of activities for the chapter to follow throughout the upcoming school year. This year’s officer team consists of: Kail Bauerbach, Wyatt Fulton, Dusty Dye, Julia Silvus, Kyla Britton, Sydney Barnes, Maggie Fulton, Christy Willis, McKenzie Schaad and Peyton Offenberger.
The next week, McKenzie Schaad and Peyton Offenberger attended the Ohio Farm Bureau Explore Ag Camp. These students were able to attend on a scholarship due to their written application. While there, they toured facilities at The Ohio State University ATI Wooster Campus, and learned more about agricultural careers. They also were able to meet students from around the state.
Julia Silvus and Maggie Fulton attended the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., at the end of June. This elite conference brings together leaders from around the country to tour our nation’s capital and develop a “living to serve plan” to bring back to their home FFA chapters. Due to the generosity of our community, and a scholarship from the Ohio FFA Alumni Association, Maggie and Julia were able to attend this conference at no cost.
From July 5-9, the Fort Frye FFA took 15 students to FFA Camp Muskingum in Carroll County, Ohio. This group had the opportunity to participate in outdoor recreation, attend leadership workshops, and develop their teamwork skills. While at camp, member Alexis White placed second in the Camp Creed competition!

Last week, member Maggie Fulton left to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture AgDiscovery Camp at the University of the Virgin Islands. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will allow Maggie to study agricultural curriculum and learn about the work of a land grant institution. In addition, she will explore the islands’ agriculture and culture.
As August approaches many members are working on their Supervised Agricultural Experiences, livestock projects, in preparation for the Waterford, Washington County and Barlow Fairs. We also have some members who will be exhibiting at the Ohio State Fair: Sydney Barnes, Alexis White and Alyssa White.
There are many other members who are growing their skills over the summer by attending workshops, clinics, and livestock shows. There are also many members with jobs and internships who are keeping record of their experiences as part of the agricultural education program.
As you can see our chapter works hard to provide career-based, leadership-focused opportunities to our members. We can’t wait to see many new members join the Fort Frye FFA this fall, and are looking forward to getting more students involved. Watch our Facebook page to stay up to date!
