The sanitary sewer system in several sections of the Colegate Drive area will be smoke tested this week, weather permitting, according to the Marietta Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The areas have been identified as having high inflow and infiltration into the sanitary sewer system during wet weather events, which contributes to sanitary sewer overflows.
To locate problem areas, smoke testing will be performed: in the area bordered by Colegate Drive to the north and Brentwood Street to the west and south; the area on both sides of Woodcrest Drive, which extends south off of Colegate; and north and south of Mt. Laurel Drive and the portion of Meadow Lane north of Wildwood Drive.
The work cannot be performed if it is cloudy or raining and will be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather. Smoke testing does not require residents to be home and no private property access will be required.
The wastewater treatment plant does specify, however, that residents have water in all drain traps for sinks, toilets, washing facilities and floor drains, including those in the basement.
