SISTERSVILLE -- The inaugural History and Science of the Ohio River Cruise will be held 6-9 p.m. Sunday on the Sistersville Ferry.
Sponsored by the Sistersville Ferry Board, the program will be about the history and value of the river in the Ohio River Valley.
Among presentations, speakers Libby and Robert Strong of The Smart Center, a science education center in Wheeling, will talk about the habitat, geology and ecosystem of the Ohio River.
Taylor Abbott, Monroe County Treasurer, will talk about the river's history. Abbott recently gave a presentation at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., "Steamboats and Culture in America's Heartland."
Helen Buccella-Costa will give a brief introduction to music inspired by rivers and the music enjoyed over the past 200 years.
The Sistersville Ferry Board's goal with the Ferry Cruise is to encourage appreciation of the Ohio River.
Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased by calling 304-652-6361 or at Sistersville City Hall. Participants are encouraged to bring chairs and wear an extra layer due to cooler temperatures on the river.
Proceeds from the cruise support the operation of the Ferry for residents and tourists.
