Tickets remain for two September events at The Castle, but spots are quickly filling for "Food History: A Meal from the Pioneers" and "The Castle's School of Magic and Wizardry," according to Kyle Yoho, The Castle's education director.
The food history program on Sept. 18 will recreate a meal from David McCullough's book, "The Pioneers." In the book, Manasseh Cutler describes an elegant banquet held at "the president's house" by invitation of Thomas Jefferson. While tasting The Castle's interpretation of that iconic meal at the White House, local historian Bill Reynolds will discuss Cutler and his role in the journey toward the Northwest Ordinance.
The menu reflects elements of Manasseh's description of the meal with additional inspiration taken from Jefferson's culinary style, Yoho said. Jefferson treated guests to French-influenced cuisine, but featured locally cultivated ingredients.
The Sept. 23 event will be for those interested in honing their magical abilities and knowledge of magical history. Students will be divided into three houses and have the chance to attend three classes: Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures and History of Magic, all taught by "renowned professors," Yoho said.
Snacks and chances for faculty and students to mingle will be provided before classes begin and after school has ended.
The magic and wizardry event is for all ages. Content is structured for ages 10 and older. Families, friend groups and all others are welcome.
