At the Washington County fair this past weekend September 2-5, Our FFA chapter was well represented by numerous members.
Starting off the weekend with the Beef Showmanship and Market classes. A special congratulations to Sydney Barnes for winning the senior division showmanship, Kyla Britton for making it to the final drive, and Alayna Biehl for winning 3rd overall market beef. Other members that participated in the show were Wyatt Fulton who received 4th place in his class for showmanship and Maggie Fulton who also received 4th in her class. Reagan Witten placed 6th overall in her intermediate class. Jozie Biehl placed 3rd in her lightweight market class. These members started raising their market steers directly after last year's fair and had been working on their project for almost 365 days. Taking a market steer is definitely a commitment.
Saturday September 2nd, members of the Fort Frye FFA Officer team volunteered with the Washington County Farm Bureau. Members led kids activities such as silly putty, corn games, coloring pictures, and decorating picture frames. This activity will help members earn their state degrees in May at the 96th Ohio FFA Convention.
On Sunday September 3rd, 10 Fort Frye members participated in the market lamb showmanship and market classes.
Several were in the final drive for showmanship and market classes. The best part about our members is how supportive they are and encouraging these members all are of each other. Sportsmanship at its finest! Member Alexis White won grand champion market lamb and Overall Champion Showman! Our other members that exhibited were Kali Shilling, Alyssa White (Intermediate Champion Showman), Sydney Barnes, Jaden Cox, Kyla Britton, Maggie Fulton, Wyatt Fulton, Christy Willis, and Kyndal Buchanan.
On Monday September 4th, The following Fort Frye FFA members exhibited their Dairy Beef Feeders.
Members included Jozie Biehl, Parker Kern, Morgan Kern, and Lexie Handschumacher.
Congratulations to Lexie for winning second place overall showmanship and Jozie for winning first place showmanship in her intermediate class.
Monday evening Sydney Barnes and Alexis White competed in the Overall Showman of Showman. This involves showing every species that the Washington County Fair has. Congratulations to Sydney Barnes for winning overall Grand Champion Showmanship!
Washington County Fair has lots of opportunities for kids to participate in. Such as the greased pig contest where one of our FFA Officers participated in and won! Great job Dusty Dye! Alexis White, Alyssa White, Sydney Barnes and Kyndal Buchanan volunteered with the Night to Shine show, allowing students with special needs to exhibit animals.
Great job to our members that won the skillathon award for their species in their grade level, Alexis White, Kyndal Buchanan, and Jozie Biehl. Fort Frye FFA found their artist out of the members! Jaden Cox and Maggie Fulton won the poster contests for the best looking buyer posters. Awesome job! Also big thank you to Christy Willis for being on the Washington County Junior Fair board where she announced and organized shows during the fair!
