The Washington County Fair rounded out the 2023 season with the annual Livestock Sale on Tuesday.
Before the Livestock Sale started on Tuesday night, the Junior Fair Board Members were recognized as well as the 2023 Washington County Junior Fair Royalty: Queen Erika Schultheis, Princess Elizabeth Loughry, Junior Princess Trinidee McKenzie, King Steven Anderson, Prince Levi Reynolds, Horse Princess Ava Lamp, and Dairy Princess Mollie Lang.
“We’ve all had a fun time at the fair, and we’ve all gotten along so well,” said Schultheis about the Junior Fair Royalty’s time spent at this year’s fair.
After the court members were recognized, Farm Credit Mid America presented a check for $500 to the Washington County Fair for the Fight Hunger, Stock the Trailer contest. The contest helps local fairs raise food donations for local food pantries across Ohio.
Preceding the start of the sale, fair volunteers Jean and Susan Perry were recognized and awarded a plaque for their many years of service helping with the Washington County Fair. The Showmanship and Overall Showmanship Winners were also recognized. There was a brief moment of silence held for longtime fair volunteer Gary Waggoneer who recently passed away.

The sale began with the auction of three wooden statues made at the fair by James McGrath with proceeds going to two separate scholarships and to the fair. The wooden statues carved this weekend for the fair included an eagle, an ear of corn, and a barn with the saying “Down On The Farm.”
Dairy Feeders were the first to be auctioned off this year at the Livestock Sale, with Premier Exhibitor Macie Smith and Grand Champion Kara Schaad breaking fair records for their sales. Smith auctioned off her dairy feeder for $3,500 and Schaad auctioned off her dairy feeder for $4,100.
As announced at the start of the Livestock Sale on Tuesday, those attending the livestock portion of the fair were “very proud of the young ones for their hard work and dedication.”
