The American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall wrapped up their final day at City Park in Parkersburg around noon Sunday.
Despite the rain on Sunday, people gathered to view the wall until its departure.
"It's been phenomenal," said Tammie Ferguson, one of the organizers of the wall, about the attendance for the wall this weekend. "We could not have asked for a better turnout."
Ferguson was not sure of a total number of attendees because not everyone comes during the main hours of viewing the wall.
"Many veterans come late at night or real early in the morning to pay their respects and visit with family," Ferguson said. "They wish to remain anonymous, and we respect those wishes."
The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be sent back to its home state of Texas for the next three weeks before it gets back on the road again and continues to travel year-round.
During its time at City Park in Parkersburg this year, several elementary school students had assignments regarding the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall. Some were tasked to find one of the eight women whose names appear on the wall, as well as anyone from their family or someone their family might have known whose names are also etched on the wall.
"It's truly been a blessing to those who haven't been able to make it to the wall in D.C.," said Ferguson.
