The local group 100 Women Who Care in the Mid-Ohio Valley will hold their quarterly fundraising meeting Thursday.
The event will take place at the Vault at 301 Second St. in Marietta from 5-7 p.m. The first hour is designated as a social hour while the second is the meeting and presentations.
For each meeting, three local non-profit organizations are invited to give a presentation about their cause. Attendees will cast votes for their favorite, and the winner receives the bulk of the money raised for the event, according to board member Stacey Hall.
"Donations are $100 per person. We accept them by check the day of or by submitting online through our Grapevine page," she said.
The remaining two organizations will receive a small check from a sponsor, which is The Original Pizza Place in Marietta.
The featured non-profits this time around are Good to You, Jess' House and the Washington County Homeless Project.
According to their Grapevine page, the group had raised $2,625 as of Monday.
In their previous meeting in August, Women Who Care raised $10,200 for House to Home operated by the Parkersburg Area Coalition for the Homeless. Hall said that was the first time the group had raised over $10,000 in their two years of existence.
Hall said the main purpose of this event is to raise money for local non-profits.
"The money is staying local. We know we're helping people. (The presenters) are sincere," she said.
Hall said she had learned of several non-profits through attending several events. She said the presentations can be emotional.
"One of the first ones I went to, Candy Waite from the Gospel Mission Food Pantry, was speaking during the baby formula shortage. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. It tugs at people's heartstrings and they want to help," she said.
After a winner is crowned, attendees will nominate three more nonprofits to attend the next meeting, which will take place in February.
