Coats for Kids drive returns next week

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program Coats for Kids winter clothing drive is returning next week and the group is in need of children's coat donations.
For the past decade, Coats for Kids has helped provide Washington County residents with free coats, hats, gloves and scarves and around 700 coats were distributed last year.
"It's so important to us to keep little children warm. During this economy, so many people don't have the money to give each child a new coat," Sandy Bach, co-chairperson of RSVP said. "We don't want any child to go to school and have a dirty or used coat. We want them to feel good about themselves wearing a new, pretty coat."
Cold weather clothing is also available for free to adults of any age and they are available for anyone in need.
"You don't have to just pick them up for your family, you can pick them up for anyone who needs a coat. We have reached out to food pantries, if they'd want to send a representative who knows an area (with people) in need of a coat, they can pick them up also," Bach said.
Coats will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting Nov. 7 and all Tuesdays and Thursdays during November at the Dimebank Building at the corner of Second and Putnam streets in Marietta.
Distribution will not be available on Thanksgiving Day and during the last week of the month, people can collect coats on Nov. 28-30.
Bach said donations are needed especially for children's sizes. New or gently used coats can be dropped off at Belpre Kroger, Marietta Kroger, Citizens Bank in Marietta, Peoples Bank in Marietta, Memorial Health System Strecker Cancer Center in Belpre, Marietta Memorial Hospital, the RSVP volunteer office, Washington County Courthouse and Washington State Community College. Donations will no longer be accepted on Nov. 27. For more information, call the RSVP office at 740-373-3107.
