Marietta High School senior Ezra Minard is vying for a crown.
Minard was among 10 seniors selected for the school's Homecoming Court. Six underclassmen were selected as well. The Homecoming King and Queen were crowned at half time of the Marietta and Meigs County game Friday.
"This is my first time on the homecoming court," he said. "I've been involved with different activities with my school. That's why people voted for me to be on the homecoming court."
One of those activities is Student Council where Minard is the class vice president.
A task was planning for the annual Spirit Games where classes compete against each other in games like musical chairs and relay races.
"It was a good time. I had students come up to me and say this is the best Spirit Games they've ever been involved with," he said.
Minard said he was most looking forward to the homecoming parade and being walked out at half time. The Marietta senior class float theme is Microwave the Marauders.
Minard said he had two major goals for his final year of high school.
"I want to get into college and be a good member of my sports teams and activities," he said.
Minard said he has filled out college applications but hasn't decided on where. However, he does know what he will study.
"I'm planning on studying finance and political science. Politics I like to keep up with. I'm also thinking about going to law school," he said.
Back at Marietta, he keeps a full schedule with classes like AP calculus, AP biology and journalism.
"I like journalism class because I do research for our monthly newspaper. I also do interviews for our school YouTube channel, Tiger TV," he said.
Minard said his journalism teacher and student council advisor, Amy Warren has taught him different lessons.
"She has been a positive influence on my life. I've learned a lot of things from her such as how to write," he said.
Minard said he appreciates all of the teachers and staff and Marietta High School.
"I think the opportunities are available for us but we have to reach out and take it. The teachers and staff want us students to succeed," he said.
Minard also is an involved athlete as a member of the school cross country and track team. He's been on the team since 7th grade.
"It requires hard work and sacrifice. It's rewarding to be alongside hardworking people who want to see you succeed and will work hard for themselves as well," he said.
Over the summer, Minard taught elementary students through the school's youth track camp.
"I like to speak in front of others and since I've been in the sport a long time, I felt like I had a lot of knowledge to give them," he said.
Minard said being a track athlete has taught him valuable life lessons.
"It's taught me] dedication and resilience. Things happen where you might have a bad race or you have an injury. You get back up and try again," he said.
