The O'Neill Center is offering a program to help low-income Washington County residents over the age of 60 make their homes safer and easier to live in.
Special attention will be given to factors such as residence location, economic need, social need, abilities and other possible circumstances.
There are a variety of low-cost changes to a home that are allowed under the Home Modification Program, which O'Neill is offering in partnership with the Ohio Department of Aging. The changes are designed to help make tasks easier, reduce accidents and lengthen the amount of time residents can continue to live in their homes.
Those tasks could be things such as installing handrails on the stairs or improving lighting in dark spaces. An initial home assessment is conducted before any work is done, in order to identify needed projects that would be permitted.
The O'Neill Center will work with skilled individuals to make the needed modifications in a cost-effective way, a press release from the center said.
