The Marietta City Schools Board of Education has two open seats for the upcoming Nov. 7 election.
One candidate is on the ballot and another is running as a write-in candidate.
Board member William Huchinson is not seeking reelection.
Russ Garrison has been on the board for eight years and is seeking his third term. He said one of the major themes the board has worked on is developing a strategic plan in order to improve education in the district.
"The district has recently completed a strategic planning process and got alignment on the vision of 'Every Student, Every Day.' The actions developed as part of the process are critically important to moving the district forward and helping every student achieve the proficiency they need to be successful in life," he said.
Garrison said he has seen significant improvement in academics and development opportunities for teachers.
"Over the last couple of years, we have adopted a much higher quality curriculum and provided professional development for the teachers to apply it effectively. Much of the Strategic Plan actions are aimed at ensuring that process continues," he said.
Garrison also mentioned that the ESSER, or Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief, funds from the U.S. Department of Education have also helped the district support their staff and regain lost learning from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rudolph John Lehman is running as a write-in candidate. Lehman previously ran in the 2021 election and received 1,899 votes.
Mark Weihl had filed as a write-in candidate but decided to drop out, according to the Washington County Board of Elections.
