WILLIAMSTOWN -- The City of Williamstown has been awarded a Work Zone Sign Package by the West Virginia Local Technical Assistance Program, officials announced via press release Wednesday.

Williamstown was one of 10 municipalities to receive this award, which valued at $3,050, according to the release. It will be used to maintain safety in work zones during road maintenance, utility operations and incident management.

The release states Williamstown was selected due to demonstrated need for work zone devices and their commitment to work zone safety.

The award includes 12 work zone signs, six sign stands, four barricades, four drums with reflective tape, 16 cones, two reflective "Stop/Slow" signs, four class III safety vests, two whistles with lanyards, and a free work zone safety training course taught by WV LTAP staff.

"The WV LTAP staff recognize how important these work zone sign packages are to West Virginia communities. Both the equipment and the training that goes along with the packages helps enhance safety for both motorists and workers and facilitate traffic flow in these communities," LTAP Program Coordinator Andrew Morgan said in the release.

The LTAP reported having awarded 106 road sign packages since the program started in 1996. In order to receive the award, municipalities can apply through the LTAP website or contact Kim Carr at kim.carr@mail.wvu.edu. Awards are given out yearly.
