VINCENT -- Newcomer Jesse C. Roush was elected to the Warren Local School Board of Education Tuesday evening, while incumbent Debbie West is likely to retain her seat, according to final unofficial numbers.
As of 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, 6,893 ballots from 13 out of 13 precincts were reported with the following numbers: Roush received 2,870 votes (41.64%), while West had received 1,850 votes (26.84%) and another newcomer, Adam J. Wynn, received 1,499 votes (21.75%).
Election results from the Washington County Board of Elections stated 674 (9.78%) votes were received for write-in candidates. Collin Yost was listed as an authorized write-in candidate.
West has been a member of the board since 2004 and will start her sixth term.
"I sincerely appreciate the support from our voters and I'm looking forward to a new term and continuing to work hard to help Warren provide the best education for our students," she said.
Roush is the Executive Director at Southeastern Ohio Port Authority in Marietta and a 2001 graduate of Warren High School. This will be his first term.
"I was surprised by the total number of votes I received. Based on my research of previous elections, I expected it would take more than 1,000 votes to win, but I never expected to win by that many votes. I'm humbled by and grateful for the show of support for our community," he said.
"I congratulate Jesse and feel he will be a great team member," West said.
Wynn is a Fleming resident and works for Innovex, a oil and gas company.
Yost is a co-owner of Roseland Coffee Bar in Belpre and Vincent.
"I'd like to thank Adam and Collin for stepping up and putting themselves out there. It shows we have young people ready to step up and support our district," West said.
The new elected officers will take office in January.
