Award winning country music singer/songwriter Skip Ewing will be performing a Christmas Concert in Marietta on December the 16th at the Elizabeth Sugden Broughton Community Building on State Route 821 at 7 p.m.
All proceeds from this special acoustic performance will go to support the food pantries in Washington County.
Ewing arrived on the country music scene in 1988 when his debut album "The Coast of Colarado" spawned five singles that charted on the country music charts and drew critical acclaim.
Among those singles were the top ten hits "The Gospel According To Luke" and "I Don't Have Far To Fall" as well as the top three single "Burnin' A Hole In My Heart".
A follow-up album in 1989 (The Will To Love") yielded another top five hit in "It's You Again".
Ewing began to share some of his songs with other artists in the nineties and that is where he found his most success as he earned many awards including BMI songwriter of the year in 2000, the prestigious "CMA 'Triple Play" award which is awarded to a writer who wrote three number one songs in a 12 month span as well as a nomination for "CMA Song of The Year"
Some of country music's biggest stars have had No. 1 hits with Ewing written material including Kenny Chesney "Me and You" and "You Had Me From Hello", Collin Raye "Love Me", Randy Travis "If I Didn't Have You" and Clint Black "Something That We Do".
After the landscape of country music began to change in the early 2000's Ewing found himself disenchanted with the business and actually stepped away for awhile, sold almost everything he owned and moved to Wyoming, a place he had grown to love after many visits to the area.
"Trying to write what radio had become just didn't resonate with me. I couldn't write the songs I really wanted to write and be successful as a writer," said Ewing. "I had been coming to Wyoming every year since the early 2000's and I knew I wanted to live there."
Thankfully for his fans the pleasures of cowboy life didn't totally eclipse his desire to make music and he began writing again which eventually led to the release of his album entitled "Wyoming" in 2020 which drew critical acclaim once again.
Ewing followed up Wyoming with a Christmas album in 2021 and he is set to release his next project.
Entitled "Road To California", the project has already introduced fans to the poignant song "Knots" as well as the fun loving "Road Dog, an ode to mans best friend, which is his current single.
The California native is excited for his audiences to hear what he's been working on for his next musical chapter.
"I have to believe that I am writing songs that are meaningful and crafted as well as I know how to craft a song," said Ewing. "For me its writing poetry. It's three dimensional, not two dimensional. It's like painting.
For Ewing, the world is his canvas and the veteran singer/songwriter is reveling in his latest creative adventures.
"When audiences are given the opportunity to hear what I do, we make a connection... that's really evident when we play live," said Ewing. "I want to take the listener on a journey. As long as they are listening I'll do my best to offer them a meaningful journey."
Ewing's concert in Marietta will likely blend a mix of his hits along with Christmas music including several songs he has written that are sure to touch the audience.
All tickets for the event are $25 general admission and may be purchased at Warrens IGA on Muskingum Drive or by calling the store at (740) 373-1518.
