Commissioners approve various funding requests

Washington County Commissioners discussed various requests for funds during the commission meeting Thursday morning.
The commissioners approved the County Auditor refunding $1.1 million in Real Estate Assessment Fund money to local schools, municipalities, and other taxing authorities.
Commissioners also approved appropriating $93,166.66 from County General funds for the Washington County Department of Job and Family Services (JFS). The need for the funds is due to the state setting the minimum amount of the county's required contribution to JFS to $2,192,116.66, according to Director of Washington County JFS Flite Freimann.
Commissioners approved an additional appropriation of $1,500 for contract services for the Local Emergency Planning Committee's contract with Washington County's Emergency Management Agency. They also approved $777,671.00 in additional funds for the paving of County Route 10 and County Route 16.
Commissioners approved a request by Freimann to discuss with EMAR Corp. getting a new elevator for JFS with a cost of up to $250,000.
"As you are aware, Tuesday last, our elevator broke and started smoking," he said.
The elevator is out of date and the parts to fix it are not available on the open market. If the elevator was fixed there would be no guarantee how long the fixes would last, so he wants to modernize the elevator, Freimann said.
Other business addressed at the Washington County Commission meeting included;
≤Approved 26 then and now items, which are purchase orders that are more than $100.
≤Approved the mileage reimbursement rate for volunteers who work in the Washington County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. The rate was set at a range of $.40 to $.67 a mile.
≤Appointed President of Washington State Community College Dr. Vicky Wood, Key Environmental Senior Project Manager Nathan Long, Morrison Inc. President David Haas and Caron Products Corporate Controller Josh Campbell to the Southeastern Ohio Port Authority Board of Directors.
≤Tabled reviewing a contract with WV Elevator Co. for elevators for the Washington County Courthouse because County Prosecutor Nicole Coil is still reviewing it.
≤Approved a contract with American Structure Point for the RAISE grant project, a multimodal transportation project in downtown Marietta.
≤Approved the liquor permit notice for Staley Meat
Commissioners stated their support for the Ohio Senate overturning Gov. Mike DeWine's veto of HB 68, a bill that bans gender affirming care for minors and does not allow transgender women to participate in women's sports.
