Lockyer, Travis Career Center’s Students of the Month

At the Career Center, both Haley Travis and Haddon Lockyer are members of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization and the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).

Through their technical program, they have or will earn college credit or industrial certifications for the Adobe Creative Cloud software in 2D Animation, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Digital Photography, Digital Storytelling, Digital Video Effects, Graphic Design, Live Streaming and Production, Premier Pro, and Video Production. They are receiving a technical focus and learning skills for creating & editing digital graphics, design techniques, information technology, multimedia and image management techniques, and video & sound. As student ambassadors, they are responsible for acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Marietta High School. In addition, they are gaining leadership skills by promoting the Career Center during its recruitment process as well as giving tours and guidance at scheduled events and with incoming visitors.

Travis is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program. She is the daughter of Harvey Travis, III of Marietta and Robin Stevens of Marietta.

At the Career Center, Travis is co-president of Student Solving Problems, vice president for NTHS, and treasurer for BPA. In addition, she is the class treasurer in her technical program. Through BPA, she competed regionally and placed second in the category of Broadcast News Production Team and third in Desktop Publishing. She has a 4.0 GPA and is on the principal list. Outside of school, Emma is an ambassador for Building Bridge to Careers (BB2C) and works for the MOV2GO Network as a director and producer of High School Football Weekly.

Travis has or will earn college credit for the following academics: American History I & II, American National Government, College Algebra, English Composition I, Introduction to Nutrition, Psychology, and Spanish I & II. Graduation Pathway Specialist, Shari Elfline, commented, "Haley is a go-getter and a leader among her peers. She can always be trusted to accomplish anything she's asked to do. She has worked in the Career Center's IT department since summer and does a fabulous job." Her technical instructor, Chris Palmer, commented, "Haley is a huge asset to the school who promotes the Career Center in a positive light."

She is currently enrolled with Washington State Community College and on track to receive an associate's degree in independent study. She plans to transfer to a 4-year college or university to receive a bachelor's degree to obtain a position in the field of broadcast media.

Lockyer is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program. He is the son of Todd and Amanda Lockyer of Marietta.

At the Career Center, Lockyer is secretary for BPA and class vice president of his technical program. Through BPA, he competed at the state level and placed in the top ten for the category of Prepared Speech. He has a 4.0 GPA and is on the principal list.

He has or will earn college credit for the following academics: College Algebra, English Composition I, Psychology, and Technical Writing. He is a top scorer in the Americanism Test for math and attended Buckeye Boys State. Outside of school, he is a speaker for the Mid-Ohio Valley Citizens Action Coalition and occasionally speaks on Sundays at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Vienna, WV. Technical instructor, Chris Palmer, commented, "Haddon is an amazing student and person. He is extremely positive and well respected by his peers." He is currently employed at Bob Evans in Marietta. He plans to attend college to receive a bachelor's degree in journalism and communications. He aspires to perform missionary work using his skills he's learned at the Career Center and after attending college.
